You might remember BadFive being on the forefront of many rumours regarding a Switch version of Call of Duty a few years ago.
BACK THEN
Back then, among the various sources of information regarding the subject, I was scouring the official Call of Duty website’s code for evidence of a Switch version of the game. Alas, my investigations were not fruitful, as I only found evidence of Nintendo Account 3DS and Wii U leftovers from the era of Black Ops 2 and Ghosts, the last two Call of Duty games released on Nintendo systems.
NEW INFORMATION UNCOVERED
Fast-forward to 2019 and I decided to check the site’s resources once again. Searching the word ‘Nintendo’, I discovered something new. The word ‘Nintendo Switch’ has been added to the code with something pointing towards support of the Switch’s 720p screen resolution. I have no expertise or coding experience but I know for sure that that detail wasn’t there a few months ago.
The code ‘nxdock’ also shows that this has something to do with the Switch Dock. This is not random.
NOT AN ACCIDENT
There is no reason for them to include support of the Nintendo Switch screen resolution for their website if they do not plan anything for the system. This change was deliberate.
We are getting a Call of Duty game on the Nintendo Switch. Finally.
UPDATE: It has been pointed out that what was noticed in the page source actually comes from the site’s YouTube embedding javascript. We have no information if the Switch support is automatically applied or manually changed but we definitely know that the Switch YouTube app has been out since November 2018 and this change was not on the Call of Duty website page source in early 2019. The site’s YouTube embedding script might have been coincidentally updated recently. On the other hand, there’s also the chance this hints at a Call of Duty title on Switch. We’re hoping it’s the latter.
