Alienware 15

…a gaming beast or just an overpriced laptop?

Alienware 15(2015), some people call it a gaming beast and others just an overpriced laptop. A laptop with good performance but some stuff that lack. There are many good comments from users about “Alien” but there are some bad too. Let’s start with:

1.Heavy and thick
In an age that devices get thinner, Alienware 15 does the opposite. Also, its weight is almost 7 pounds(3,2 kg)! If I would personally buy a laptop and always leave it home because of its weight and dimensions, then I would rather buy a desktop. I don’t know why the manufacturer did that. Maybe because Alienware 15 is highly customizable? or because they wanted to use better fans(they use two fans) to make cooling more effective? Guess what… heating also exists.

2.Heating
Alienware heats easily. And that’s not the only issue. During gaming ,the two fans start working while making a very annoying noise. After some time of working on it(not necessarily gaming) , the CPU reaches around 80°C and GPU around 70°C. I don’t know if that means that Alienware 15 needs an extra fan. Oh please no.

3.Two cores cpu?
Well that’s controversial. Many people can say “it does not need a Quad-Core CPU, its performance is satisfactory” and others see only the specifications of Alienware 15 and say “Whaat?? Dual core?? Oh no!”. From a laptop like this you are expecting the “best” performance, so it’s rational when an ordinary user has complaints about for example a dual core CPU.

4.Speakers could be better
You made it thick. Why didn’t you include better or bigger speakers? Users complain about Dell’s Alienware 15 speakers that are not loud enough. Come on. Those speakers in a combination with the noise that fans are making, you indirectly forcing the user to use headphones. That’s bad.

5. Battery life
Here you can’t say that Alienware’s battery is bad, but compared to “similar” laptops like Lenovo Thinkpad Helix, Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro and Dell XPS 13, it lacks. According to some tests which include web browsing and video streaming, Alien’s average duration is around four and a half hours. The gaming test duration (which was with maximum settings and full brightness) is about an hour. The other laptops last more than one and a half hour.
