An Introduction to the New iPhone 11

You’ve probably heard by now, but in case it’s passed you by, Apple is officially releasing three brand new iPhones on September 20. The iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are available to pre-order from September 13 with prices starting at $699 for the iPhone 11, $999 for the iPhone Pro and $1099 for the Pro Max. New product releases from Apple are always surrounded by speculation and anticipation and there are plenty of people who will upgrade simply because it’s the latest. However, for those of you who need a little more convincing, here’s a quick introduction to the key features of the new iPhone 11 range.

The New A13 Bionic chip

While the 2018 iPhones included the silicone A12 Bionic chip, the iPhone 11s of 2019 have upgraded to the latest A13 chip which is 20% faster, enabling the fastest GPU and CPU of any smartphone (according to Apple). The chip has been developed for enhanced machine learning which can deliver one trillion operations every second and enables real-time video and photo analysis. The A13 chip is also around 30% faster at completing Face ID and will unlock at multiple angles.

While the previous M-series motion coprocessor used microphones, barometer, gyroscope, accelerometer and a compass to determine its location, the iPhone 11 has a new U1 sensor which is called R1 or Rose which gives the iPhone a more accurate reading of its 3D location. It does this through Bluetooth 5.1, camera sensor data, ultra-wideband, and inertial measurement unit.

The Display

Just like its predecessor, the iPhone 11 has a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina LCD Display with wide color support and True Tone, but the iPhone 11 Pro and Max have moved on. The iPhone Pro has features a 5.8-inch OLED Super Retina XDR Display and the Max has a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display which Apple describe as the “brightest display” of any iPhone. This delivers an enhanced HDR video watching experience with 1,200 nits of brightness. The iPhone 11 models will not have 3D Touch as Apple has opted for Haptic Touch instead.

The Battery

The iPhone 11 models have all-day battery life which improves on its predecessor by one hour, but the iPhone Pro and Pro Max will last 4 and 5 hours more, respectively. They include an 18W fast-charge power adapter and the Apple logo on the back of the device shows you where to place your phone on a wireless charging mat.

The Design

The iPhone 11 is available in green, red, yellow, purple, black or white and the iPhone Pro and Pro Max are available in midnight green, silver, space gray or gold.

The iPhone 11s are water resistant for 30 minutes up to a depth of 2 meters for the iPhone 11 and 4 meters for the iPhone Pro and Pro Max. The Pro iPhones have been designed with the toughest glass to date and finished in textured matte glass with a polished stainless steel band. In addition, BodyGuardz are already offering a range of cases and screen protectors for the new iPhone 11 so you can provide it with the highest level of protection from day one.

The Camera

The camera enhancements are some of the biggest news for iPhone fans including a new dual lens system in the iPhone 11 and a triple lens system in the iPhone Pro models. Night mode, Audio Zoom, slow-motion videos and Ultrawide angle lens are also new features and the A13 chip enables more intelligent photography than previous models. They will also support Dolby Atmos and spatial audio and wireless connectivity Gigabit-class LTE and Wi-Fi 6. In addition, the Pro line supports speeds up to 1.86Gbps and the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro can be used with Dual SIM and eSIM.
