One of the most elegant and glamorous devices ever made.
Apple introduced the brand new 12” Apple MacBook and is definitely leveling up the whole concept of the ultra-books. And we claim this because of the successful combination of charming design and elegance with very high level of engineering in every single aspect in this device. The new Apple MacBook 12-inch comes at 2.04 pounds(0.9 Kg) which makes it really, but really light and it is at its thickest point 13.1 mm, which makes it one of the thickest notebooks ever. As a result, the portability of this ultra-book is absolutely perfect, and in general, the new MacBook is definitely not disappointing as a very complete device for general use. So, the new MacBook is very futuristic and probably it is going to be the base of how devices in its category are going to be on the future. Is it perfect though?
1. What’s going on with processing performance?
The Apple MacBook(12-inch 2015) comes with the 1.1GHz Intel Core M 5Y31. The new technology of this processor makes the whole device very quiet as long as it may not even need a fan to cool it down. However, with only 1.1GHz the processor is very often struggling for even simple tasks and it limits every user in any extended use of the notebook. In simple words, it is a quite expensive gadget you can use only for typing, browsing and other simple tasks that doesn’t need any particular power.
2. Does the Battery life last for a long time?
You couldn’t say that its battery is bad. However, we noticed that some rivals as HP Spectre x360 or the Dell XPS perform better in some demanding tasks and at the same time the battery lasts approximately the same, or even better in some cases. And as we mentioned before, the processor is very often straggling for even the simple tasks and as a result this effects in the battery life.
3. It comes with only one connection port…
..and that port is not even a commonly used port nowadays, it is a USB-C port. And you have to use it for charging the device, connecting any peripheral storage unit, connecting any peripheral device as mouse, keyboard, printer etc., connecting any external monitor or projector and for all these uses of course you will need the proper adaptors from Apple, as a result, at any movement with the laptop you will need to move around half a dozen adaptors just in case you are going to use something external. And as we all know, those adaptors are not considered cheap. It is going to really raise the price of what you are getting.
4. The keyboard is shallow and needs time to get used to it.
The very elegant thin and light design, which is fantastic, sacrificed the nice feeling that the keyboard should have. The keyboard feels very solid and from good material, in general it is very well made. However, the keys are very shallow and every click is not deep. It just doesn’t feel very satisfying typing on that keyboard.
5. Multimedia Features are disappointing
Something that we noticed is that this MacBook’s built in camera is a simple 640×480 camera and it lacks of a high-res 720p camera that other Apple devices or other rivals have. Something else that has been noticed is that the speakers are not performing very well. It was a bit expected though because is a very thin and small laptop and that comes with some costs. But Apple should minimize those costs. It is probably a notebook from the future with a fantastic character and astonishing design, but does it really deserve its price?
