A very promising device but with some irritating drawbacks
The future of television is here, or at least that’s what Apple says. Apple TV is the new and very promising TV streaming device of Apple. They claim that it leans towards the future of television and without any doubt is what every family that loves spending quality time infront of a TV should have. I’m just going to go ahead and just say it. Apple TV is not the future of television but it sure will be at some point if they keep improving their product with the same pace. A very promising device but with some irritating drawbacks.
1. No 4K Support
Although this might not be a major problem for many users it raises an obvious question. How can Apple claim that Apple TV is the future of television if they don’t event include the latest achievement of TV which is of course 4K? Someone would argue that 4K doesn’t have many uses just yet and I would agree to that statement. But if you want to say that your product is the future, you should at least include the most “futuristic” features, especially if your competitors are already doing it.
2. Typing = Irritating
I personally don’t find any logic to what Apple has done with their onscreen keyboard. It’s a single row of characters which is possibly one of the worst layouts I have ever seen for on-screen keyboards. Because the track pad is so sensitive it takes for ever to type something since you have to scroll linearly to reach each letter independently. There is no solution to this problem since you can’t use any third party app for typing. You can’t even use Siri. So you are stuck with this terrible layout. If you miss-type a lot like me, you’re going to have a bad time.
3. “Global” Search
Global search isn’t really global. You can use Siri to search only major services of Apple TV like Hulu and Netflix. At the time you don’t have the ability to search the App store or Apple music using Siri. It quite bothers me that Apple hasn’t included this feature to its product since it would have been an amazing addition.
4. Lack of Apps
To be honest it was expected that Apple TV would not be full of amazing apps right from the beginning. It takes some time to convince developers to transfer their work from one platform to another. They promise that this problem will cease to exist as time goes by. Knowing Apple this statement is mostly true. You have to note though that one of the major players, which is Amazon, is missing from Apple TV, hopefully not for long.
5. Expensive
It would be a surprise to review an Apple product without saying that it’s expensive. Well, it’s true. People complain that the price of Apple TV, which is the highest at its field, is not justified. This seems to be the case since other competitors like Roku or Amazon fire TV offer pretty much the same along with additional 4K support for less money.
