Is the descendant of TV here?
The brand new Samsung Galaxy View is the new type of hybrid device introduced from Samsung. As other hybrids, it combines a tablet, with a TV this time. It comes at 18.4 inches with approximately 74.9% screen-to-body ratio and in general it is a very powerful and good performing device for any usage that needs good processing power. It also works very well for any graphical demanding use and we could easily say that is a very complete packet with the latest and most advanced hardware features that a device could have at the moment. What are this devices most common drawbacks though? Most of the hybrid devices in the beginning of their launch are useless. Mostly because when you try to combine 2 different things at one, you can very easily miss important details about the main characteristics and features of those different things.
1. No ports for connecting any peripheral.
The Samsung Galaxy View is mainly introduced as an alternative device of a TV. It can definitely succeed in replacing it because it is satisfying good for video streaming and it is much more practical and usable for so many other things than the conventional TV. And of course it is a very decisive step about the evolution of the video streaming devices. However it is still crucial the use of conventional technologies. Some people may still need to connect a console for gaming, some others may still need to connect somehow a satellite receiver and some people will definitely need to use it as a normal TV. Due the lack of important ports of connectivity the Samsung Galaxy View is kind of failing to prove itself as the TV’s descendant.
2. Non-removable back panel with a weird mechanism!
It comes with a plastic kickstand that helps at adjusting the position of the screen and it gives some options of gradient. Unfortunately, this back panel is not the most delicate touch that Samsung has ever made and it feels a bit bumpy, but most importantly, it is not removable resulting the inability to lay the device completely flat as a tablet and making it difficult to pack affecting its mobility. Except that, the mechanism of the back panel is not smooth at all and a very unpleasant loud flap is heard every time you attach it completely with the body.
3. It is really heavy.
It is a hybrid of a Tablet and a TV. You cannot use it extensively as a TV (as we mentioned) and at 2.65 kg (5.84 lb) you cannot use it extensively as a tablet. For such a device it could be a fantastic feature the good portability and easy mobility. It would be a lot of people’s solution for their vacations’ smart TV. And it is much heavier than a lot of portable devices as Notebooks and other tablets so it should be just a bit lighter, it can be.
4. Weak Speakers.
It is maybe the best alternative of a TV if someone needs a compact device to combine good video streaming quality, saving space and multifunctioning features. It is going to be very disappointing though to realize that he can stream at good quality only with a headset. The speakers are placed in the back side of the device and are not pointed at the front resulting a not very good sound experience.
5. Expensive for what you get.
It costs around $600 and it doesn’t feel very solid. It is built entirely from plastic and it doesn’t have any sense of attractiveness. It feels that is built with cheap material. And in the end of the day you are paying quite of an amount and what is the actual use of the device? Is it really usable? Is it really useful? Maybe it is, maybe it is not. Anyhow, we are not convinced yet.
